In Filter, the body becomes a path of retrospection and inquiry. The work draws sensation from discontinued cultural memories—specifically Uyghur heritage in Xinjiang—and bodily languages of childhood, weaving them into a physical narrative through slow, stripped-down movement. This approach reveals a presence both vulnerable and resilient, suspended between exposure and concealment. Within this tension, the piece creates pauses and silence, allowing ambiguous yet potent traces of identity to emerge and settle.

Gunika Aniva
Born in Urumqi, Xinjiang in 1997, Gunika currently lives and works in Shanghai.
She is an independent choreographer and performer. Her practice brings together the body, performance and image. Guided by intuition and observation, she explores the relationship between individual experience and social structures. She is particularly interested in the relationship between seeing and being seen, and how body language changes under the gaze of others. Through her work, she also examines how the body is shaped by aesthetic standards and social structures, as well as the relationship between observation, imitation and identity.
